My Menopause Story: You Broke the Deal.

December 8, 2021

Part journey, part awareness campaign, My Menopause Story is a quarterly entry documenting the symptoms, emotional impact, and strategies of dealing with the Menopause transition. Actions have consequences…or rewards.  Once I discovered my inner athlete, I started feeling, well…good. Doing good things for myself had positive effects. I lost inches, clothes fit better, and my…

My Menopause Story: Going through “the change.”

October 20, 2021

Part One: Operating System Crash You know what it’s called when you start thinking of something and then it starts to show up all over the place unbidden? It’s called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, but that is not what is important. This is happening to me a lot in 2021. My fitness routine, nutrition, and overall…

2019 DC Wonder Woman 5k

July 24, 2019

Another woman turned around, looked at me and smiled, then beckoned to me as if to say, “Come on! Let’s finish strong!” I looked at her, tapped into the fumes of whatever I had left and said, “Let’s do this!”

Race day conditions could not have been more perfect: 50 degrees at race start partly cloudy, light breeze. As I hit the start line, I wasn’t really focused on the race. It wasn’t until I was high-fiving the security team that I thought, “I should probably get set up.” I found my run program in my watch, turned on my playlist, and the gun went off.

September 23, 2018

Everything I ever understood about support and encouragement during a race weekend was put away on Saturday at the Beat the Blerch Half/Marathon weekend. 11:00 pm Sunday night: I’m staring at the ceiling, mind racing with anticipation. I laid out all my clothes and gear hours ago. I ate a healthy dinner, and even turned the lights out at 9:00 pm. Yes. I’d been lying there for 2 hours waiting on sleep. Finally, after tossing and turning, I decide…

Ogden Half Marathon Race Report

June 3, 2018

Our training doesn’t exist in a vacuum. I say this all the time, and it couldn’t be more true than with the Ogden Marathon event. This “perfect for first-timers” race truly was an unexpected redemption from the poor experience I had at my last half-marathon. This weekend held some significance: Ogden Marathon hosts other events…

About My Journey

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” -- Lao Tzu

Every medal tells a story. Every mile, a lesson learned. My Running Journey has taken me through the ups and downs, ins and outs of life since 2004. Sharing my lessons learned with strangers from the internet helped not just me, but many others realize that perfection in running isn’t possible, and that when we accept that, we unlock our potential to become Runners Without Limits.
